Best restaurants in Leblon, Rio de Janeiro: Local classics from breakfast to dinner

Leblon may be one of Rio's most upscale neighborhoods, but its food scene isn’t a reflection of it. The neighborhood has its own food hub: Rua Dias Ferreira, officially recognized as the city's Gastronomic Hub in 2021.

But beyond that one street, Leblon's real character shows up in its classic bars (botecos) and juice houses, places that have been part of Rio's daily life for decades, long before the neighborhood became synonymous with fine dining.

This guide to the best restaurants in Leblon focuses on those local spots: the braseiros, the feijoada spots, the corner bars where cariocas actually eat.

If you're looking for Leblon's high-end tasting menus, check out my guide to Rio's most romantic restaurants, and the guide to the luxury restaurants in Rio de Janeiro, where a few of the neighborhood's best already have their own spotlight.

Best cafes in Leblon, Rio de Janeiro

Leblon's café scene goes from the classic confeitarias for an afternoon sweet, and the newer wave of all-day cafés built around brunch and specialty coffee.

So_lo

Already a favorite in my breakfast and brunch guide, So_lo brought its organic, globally-inspired menu to Leblon too. Built around local and sustainable ingredients, the menu offers either a quick breakfast or a longer, more leisurely brunch, served all day. My go-to is the cheese bread with feta cheese cream, alongside their high-quality coffee. They also serve lunch, if you feel like coming back later in the day.

📍 Ataulfo de Paiva, 1120

Absurda Confeitaria

Absurda has a few locations around the city, but the Leblon unit stays open until 9 PM, perfect if you want something sweet later in the day. The bakery has picked up a few awards, and there's a new selection of pastries arriving every week, always a reason to come back.

📍 Ataulfo de Paiva, 1228

Best juice and snack bars in Leblon

No trip to Leblon is complete without a stop at one of its juice and snack bars, the fast, no-frills spots where cariocas actually eat between the beach and the next thing on the agenda.

BB Lanches

A Leblon institution and the locals' go-to post-beach fast food. It's simple and no-frills: you order at the counter, pay, and eat while standing there. Try the pastel (packed with meat and a boiled egg mixed into the filling), açaí, or one of the dozens of fresh juice combinations. Open past 3 AM on weeknights and until 5 AM on weekends, it works as a post-beach and after-party stop.

📍 Aristides Espínola, 64 (corner of Av. Ataulfo de Paiva)

Bibi Sucos

A slightly different pace, but just as classic as BB: actual tables and a recently refreshed menu, with countless juice flavors alongside sandwiches, tapiocas, and açaí bowls for something quick, or a solid lunch menu if you're staying longer. Still fast and casual, but built for sitting down instead of eating on the go.

📍 Ataulfo de Paiva, 591 A

Best vegetarian and health-focused spots in Leblon

Leblon doesn’t disappoint when it comes to plant-based food. Already covered in my guide to Rio's best vegetarian and vegan restaurants, Celeiro brings its self-service, plant-forward buffet to Leblon. More options below:

Iná Cozinha do Brasil

Not a strictly vegetarian menu, but one of the best in Leblon for plant-based Brazilain cuisine. The vegan feijoada and vegan ceviche are both standouts, alongside a full brunch served daily until 6 PM. Kombucha on tap and a proper specialty coffee list round it out, making it as good for an afternoon break as for a full meal.

📍 Almirante Pereira Guimarães, 65

Aura

A newer addition to the neighborhood: part bistro, part health bar with a menu that leans functional. Expect protein-rich dishes, smoothies, and bowls covering everything from brunch to post-workout meals.

📍 General San Martin, 1196

Best bars in Leblon

For the real Rio boteco experience with cold beer, bar bites, and the eat-on-the-sidewalk vibe, whether standing or seated, these three are Leblon's essentials.

Jobi

Open since 1956 and about to turn 70, Jobi is an institution, officially recognized as a piece of the city's cultural heritage. That kind of place perfect for when you don't want to think about where to go — you already know the food is legendary (the bolinho de bacalhau even more so). It's the place to feel Rio at its most irreverent and casual.

📍 Ataulfo de Paiva, 1166

Bracarense

Another classic, open since 1961, "Braca," as locals call it, has been named Brazil's best bar by the New York Times, twice. Follow my lead and go for the bolinho de aipim com camarão e requeijão (cassava fritter with shrimp and cream cheese), or the empadas (small savory hand pies, usually filled with shrimp). Or both.

📍 José Linhares, 85

Boteco Boa Praça

Newer than the other two, it packs the full Rio boteco experience right on Dias Ferreira, in case you don't want to leave the Gastronomic Hub. A menu built around small bites, a solid drinks list, and live music most nights make it one of the livelier spots on this list.

📍 Rua Dias Ferreira, 12

Best feijoada in Leblon

Feijoada is Brazil's national dish, and Leblon has been serving it since before the neighborhood turned upscale.

Academia da Cachaça

It sounds like it could be a tourist trap as a famous, centrally located spot serving Brazil's most iconic dishes, but it's actually the opposite: practical, and genuinely delicious. Open since 1985, Academia da Cachaça pairs its award-winning feijoada, served daily at any hour, with dozens of cachaças by the glass, or a classic caipirinha. Catch live chorinho on Thursday evenings if you can time your visit right.

📍 Rua Conde de Bernadotte, 26

Best braseiros in Leblon

If you've read any of my other restaurant guides, you already know I push braseiros hard, every single time. If you haven't come across them yet, I've written a whole explainer on why it might be my favorite Rio food tradition, but the short version is: charcoal-grilled chicken, steaks, and sides meant for sharing, in a casual neighborhood setting.

Galeto do Leblon

A sit-down-on-the-sidewalk after beach classic on Rua Dias Ferreira. The galeto here is the draw, a small, French-cut bird roasted over charcoal, but the picanha and Saturday feijoada have their own following too. Reasonably priced for a neighborhood where that's not always a given.

📍 Rua Dias Ferreira, 154

Boteco Rainha

Born in Leblon and now something of a local empire with locations across Brazil, Rainha still delivers on the original: galeto with your choice of style (Gávea-style with wild rice, French-style with straw potatoes), fresh catch of the day, and classic petiscos. Expect a wait if you show up after the lunch rush.

📍 Rua Dias Ferreira, 247

Best steakhouses & burger in Leblon

For dedicated churrascarias, Rio's all-you-can-eat rodízio houses, check out my full guide to Rio's best churrascarias. The spots below are different: fire-grilled tasting menus and steakhouse classics, not rodízio.

Clan BBQ

This industrial-chic space on Rua Dias Ferreira holds a neon sign reading "don't put out my fire," and is home to one of the best burgers in Rio, in my opinion. Busy, you can expect long wait on weekends and holidays. My suggestion is to go early, right after sunset at the beach. Michelin Plate honoree three years running (2024–2026).

📍 Rua Dias Ferreira, 233 Loja B

CT Boucherie

Chef Claude Troisgros runs this beef-focused bistro that flips the traditional all-you-can-eat rodízio format. Here, you choose your cut from the prime options, then side dishes arrive table-side throughout the meal, from everything from classic churrascaria sides to more refined options, built on relationships with small local producers.

📍 Rua Dias Ferreira, 636

Malta Beef Club

Malta is the place I recommend for a more curated, elevated experience than your average steakhouse: fewer distractions, better cuts, and a menu built for people who already know what dry-aged actually means.

📍 Av. General San Martin, 359

Best Portuguese & seafood restaurants in Leblon

Thanks to Rio's history of Portuguese colonization and immigration, you can find genuinely great Portuguese food here. Codfish is the star of Portuguese cuisine, and paired with Brazil's own strong seafood tradition, these two restaurants are my favorite spots in Leblon whenever I'm craving fish.

Sabor das Águas

Marcelo Malta — the same one behind Malta Beef Club — brings his dry-aging expertise to fish here. Whole fish hang in a temperature-controlled chamber for up to 10 days before they hit the plate, concentrating the flavor the same way dry-aged beef does. There's also a live oyster tank, sidewalk tables on Dias Ferreira, and Canoa, the adjoining cocktail bar sharing the same menu.

📍 Rua Dias Ferreira, 605

Sardinha Taberna Portuguesa

A small, cozy taberna with a few more addresses around Rio, offering a menu that doesn't disappoint actual Portuguese people. I've been there with friends from Lisbon, and they approved. Try the roasted sardines the restaurant is named for, or one of the codfish dishes (my go-to is the bacalhau à Brás), but save space for dessert. The rabanadas are a classic here, and highly recommended.

📍 Rua Aristides Espinola, 101

Best Japanese and Asian restaurants in Leblon

Brazil has more Japanese and Asian restaurants than you'd probably expect, and Leblon doesn't fall behind as home to some of the country's best addresses. I've picked two for this guide, and if you're after something more special-occasion, San (already featured in my romantic restaurants guide) is also right here in the neighborhood.

Sushi Leblon

Open for almost four decades, on the same stretch of Dias Ferreira as half this list. The restaurant is intimate, a little dark, and the bar counter by the kitchen is the seat everyone wants. Busy and Michelin Guide recommended, reserve a table if it's on your list for dinner, or do like I do and go for lunch.

📍 Dias Ferreira, 256

Azumi

Rio's very first Japanese restaurant, opened in 1989 in Copacabana, moved to Leblon in 2024. The menu keeps things close to home-style Japanese cooking: rice-based dishes like katsu don, lámen, and a teishoku (Japanese-style set meal) that's become one of the house favorites.

📍 Dias Ferreira, 480

Best pizza in Leblon

As someone who's all about Brazilian food, pizza isn't something I eat often but this Leblon spot pairs excellent food with a setting that works for pretty much any occasion.

Sisi Cucina

The perfect setting for a night out with friends or a date, and pizza worth the hype: chef Pedro Siqueira has been ranked among the world's best pizzaiolos by The Best Pizza Awards for three years running (2024–2026). The pizza has high, airy crusts, and toppings that lean traditional with a bold carioca twist. Fresh pasta is also on the menu, if you're not there just for pizza.

📍 Dias Ferreira, 617
