Its opening days overlap with the final weekend of Rio Gastronomia, which runs through 4 October.
Midway through the month, 12 October brings a national holiday also marked as Children's Day (Dia das Crianças) in Brazil. Landing near a weekend, it tends to push up hotel and flight prices for a few days.
A few days later, Rio Coffee Nation (16–18 October) takes over EXC Rio in Jardim Botânico with tastings, workshops and talks from Brazil's specialty coffee scene,and this edition also hosts the first-ever ceremony for The Best Coffee Shops Brasil, a new national ranking tied to the global 100 Best Coffee Shops list.

Is October a good time to visit Rio de Janeiro?
It depends on what you're after. If you're a film lover, the Festival do Rio makes this a genuinely special window to visit with something most tourists never think to time their trip around. If you're into beer, Mondial de la Bière is a great opportunity to try a wide range of labels while taking part in a genuinely carioca cultural event, with good live music and top-notch production.
If you're looking for warm weather and fewer crowds than summer, October delivers, with the exception of the 12 October holiday weekend, when the city gets noticeably busier.
Overall, it's a solid month: warmer than winter, less crowded and pricier than the December–February peak, with real value for travelers who avoid the holiday dates.
